Recovered by hand from the wheat fields of Kiowa County, Kansas

Wendell Rausch, seventy-four, Haviland, Kansas. Forty-one years of walking cut stubble with a detector coil. Both shoulders are finished, and 186 dials are all that is left.

“A buyer offered me twenty-eight dollars a gram for the whole lot, cash, one afternoon. It would have gone into thirty-thousand-dollar watches on wrists that would never be told where it came from. I want it worn by people who still look up once in a while.”

— Wendell Rausch, prospector, Kiowa County, Kansas

Four things that make this dial impossible to copy
📏
The Depth Line
Every certificate names the field, the date and the depth in inches the mass came out of. No other watch dial in the world arrives with an address.
💎
The Clean Cut
Only the metal-rich zones of a recovered mass get cut — the parts where the lattice runs unbroken from edge to edge. Most of a mass never becomes a dial.
🌌
The Kansas Etch
The metal is hand-etched to raise the crystalline banding. That structure forms at about one degree of cooling per million years, which is why no laboratory has ever reproduced it.
🧭
The Magnet Proof
Most brands ask for trust. Hold any refrigerator magnet near the dial and feel the iron pull toward it. A printed imitation does nothing at all.
Verified by a specialist

“Three things have to be true at the same time: the lattice at the right angles, the pull of a magnet, and the weight — iron-nickel is far heavier than it looks. A fake can approximate any one of them. Nobody has ever produced all three. Brenham itself is finite — that ground has been worked since 1882, and what comes out now comes out in ounces, not pounds. Material recovered by one prospector over four decades is not something the market can replace.”

— Dr. Marguerite Selby, Planetary Materials, Sternberg Museum of Natural History, Hays, Kansas

Who this is for
🌍 Anyone who still looks up 🎁 A gift that outlasts the giver 👑 Fathers and grandfathers 🔬 Rock and mineral people ⌚ Watch collectors after something real 🎓 Teachers and science folk 🌾 Kansas and plains natives 💰 Retirement and milestone gifts
What you are actually getting
  • Genuine meteorite, not a print. A real cut, polished and acid-etched meteorite slice, hand-finished, with a magnet test anyone can run at the kitchen table.
  • Yours exists once. The banding and the crystal placement never repeat, so no two dials on Earth are the same.
  • A documented origin. Field, date and recovery depth on a numbered certificate — not a generic authenticity card.
  • Built to be worn, not stored. Solid 40 mm steel case, sapphire-coated glass, a movement that runs for years on one battery.
  • 186 exist and there is no restock. The permissions to walk those fields end with Wendell.
🛡
30 days, no argument

If the dial doesn’t stop you, or your magnet doesn’t grab, send it back within 30 days and get your money back. In forty-one years nobody has ever mailed a piece of this material back.

Please read before ordering

Every dial is cut from a different piece of meteorite. The direction of the banding, the density of the lattice and the exact tone of the metal vary from watch to watch — the photographs show examples, not the specific dial you will receive. That variation is the material, not a defect.

The Last 186

Message from the shop:

After forty-one years walking cut wheat fields in Kiowa County, Kansas, both of Wendell Rausch’s rotator cuffs are through and his doctor has ended the digging. Every dial in this run was cut, polished and etched by him from meteorite he pulled out of the ground himself — one piece at a time, up to seven feet down. One hundred eighty-six watches exist. The permissions to walk those fields are in his name and end with him, so there is no next batch.

What people are saying about Wendell’s meteorite watches

I have been buying pieces from Wendell since 2004. When I heard he was putting the material into watches I ordered three — one for me, one for my son and one for my grandson. It is the first thing all three of us own that is older than the planet.

Verified

Dale H., Wichita, KS

My husband collects watches. He has more than he will admit to. When this one came he held a magnet up to it, felt it pull, and said this is the only one in the drawer that is actually real. He has not taken it off since.

Verified

Sharon W., Springfield, MO

I teach earth science. When I saw you could wear this material for $149 I assumed the listing was wrong. It isn’t. The dial is real and the magnet settles it in about two seconds. My students pass it around the room.

Verified

David R., Norman, OK

I have bought my son gadgets his whole life. It all ends up in a drawer eventually. This is the first gift I have ever handed him that existed before the Earth did. That one is not going in a drawer.

Verified

Michael T., Lincoln, NE

My grandson held a magnet next to it and his eyes went wide. So I told him what he was looking at. Now he tells everybody in his class about grandpa’s space watch. You cannot buy a reaction like that.

Verified

Richard P., Cedar Rapids, IA

More impressive in person than in the photographs. You can see the pattern with the naked eye and you can feel the weight of it. It does not feel like a watch. It feels like a piece of the sky on my wrist.

Verified

Helen C., Boise, ID

My wife asked why I keep turning my wrist over every few minutes. Because every angle catches the pattern differently. You do not get tired of looking at four and a half billion years.

How is it made?

Each dial is cut by hand from a Brenham meteorite mass Wendell Rausch recovered himself in Kiowa County, Kansas: sliced to 0.9 mm, polished, acid-etched to raise the Widmanstatten lattice, then sealed and set into a 40 mm stainless case with a Japanese quartz movement. The lattice never repeats, so no two dials are the same.
