I bought this bag on a whim three weeks ago and I am not exaggerating when I say I have been stopped FOUR times by strangers asking where I got it. At the farmers market, at Target, at my book club. Everyone thinks it's some $200 boutique find. The wooden bead handle is so comfortable — I forget I'm even carrying it. My leather bags are collecting dust now.

The Final Sale

Message from the Artist:

After years of making things by hand, our workshop is closing. These are the last pieces we'll ever ship. Every item on this page was made slowly, carefully, and with more love than any factory could replicate. Nothing rushed. Nothing outsourced. Just real craft from real hands.

We're proud of every single one. We hope they find good homes.

When they're gone, they're gone — and so are we.

The Cat & Dog Collection

Ellie Mae's Quilted Weekender

65 Years of Quilting, Stitched Into One Last Collection

🧵 Final Batch · The Patchwork Porch Studio · Gatlinburg, TN · Est. 2003

I picked up my first needle when I was nine years old, sitting at my grandmother's kitchen table outside Knoxville. She showed me how to make a simple nine-patch, and I never really put the needle down after that. Sixty-five years. I've taught quilting classes right here at The Patchwork Porch for twenty-two years, and I've loved every one of them.

But my hands aren't what they were. The arthritis has been getting worse, and my doctor finally sat me down and told me plainly what I already knew: I can't keep this pace. My left hand shakes now when I try to thread a needle. It's just time.

I'm at peace with it. The Patchwork Porch had a good long run. These weekender bags are the last collection I'll put my name on — and honestly, my only wish is that they find their way to people who love cats and dogs the way I do. If you're one of those people, I think you'll understand what I was going for.

The Six Designs

Each bag features one full-panel design. Choose the one that speaks to you — or the person you're buying for.

Kaleidoscope Cat
A cat face in full psychedelic bloom — sunbursts of yellow, turquoise, and purple that stop people in airport terminals.
Sleeping Dachshund
A black-and-tan wiener dog dreaming among golden sunflowers — warm autumn light in every thread.
Poodle Parade
Cream, apricot, brown, black, plum — a whole crowd of curly-headed doodle faces looking very pleased with themselves.
Wide-Eyed Black Cat
Huge, perfectly round amber eyes on a patchwork quilt background of peach, denim blue, rust red, and grey.
Sleeping Kittens
Calico, orange, and white kittens tucked in together. Soft and cozy in the way only a pile of sleeping cats can be.
Frenchie Garden
Three black-and-white French bulldogs standing proud among bright blooms on a warm red and yellow garden backdrop.
✦ More designs joining the collection soon — check back if your favorite animal isn't here yet. ✦

A note on the artwork: These designs have the look of hand-stitched embroidery and intricate quilting — but they're printed flat on real quilted fabric using premium 2D printing. That means every detail stays crisp, the bag weighs less, and there are no threads to snag or fray. It's the beauty of heirloom needlework with the durability of a bag you can actually take everywhere.

What Makes It Worth Carrying

🧵
Real Quilted Texture

Run your hand across the surface and you'll feel it — genuine quilted stitching in the fabric itself. This isn't just a printed tote. The structure, the softness, the weight: it holds up the way a proper quilted piece should.

✈️
Weekend & Carry-On Ready

At 20" × 11" × 10", there's room for a long weekend's worth of clothes, shoes, and the things you can't leave behind. Fits overhead bins on most domestic flights. Handles are padded so a full bag doesn't cut into your shoulder.

🎁
Genuinely Gift-Ready

Know a cat person, a dog person, a traveler who'd appreciate something thoughtful and a little different? Each bag ships in protective packaging. No wrapping needed — though it photographs beautifully if you want to make an occasion of it.

A Final Collection

There are roughly 850 bags left across all six designs. When they're gone, The Patchwork Porch closes for good. Ellie Mae isn't planning to restock. This is genuinely the last run — not a marketing phrase, just a fact.

💡
The Honest Print Story — Why It's Actually Better This Way

Real hand-embroidery on a bag this size would be brittle, heavy, and prone to snags. The artwork on these bags achieves the same intricate, heirloom look — every color, every fine line — through premium flat printing on the quilted panel. The result is a bag that travels light, washes without damage, and holds its design through years of use. It's not a shortcut. It's the right method for a bag meant to be used, not displayed.

🐱🐶

Right now, Biscuit the tabby and June the beagle are probably asleep at Ellie Mae's feet in the studio — same as they've been every day she's worked in that room for years. She'll pack up the last of her notions, close the door to The Patchwork Porch, and that'll be that.

She just wants these bags to find the right homes. Maybe yours is one of them.

Orders are handled by her grandson Tyler (24), who manages the online shop and ships every order himself from Gatlinburg. If you have a question, he's the one who'll write back.

What Cece’s customers are saying

I bought the large round tote for my trip to the Outer Banks and it's perfect. It holds my beach towel, sunscreen, and a book without feeling bulky. The leather handles are so soft on my shoulder. You can feel the quality in the weave. Thank you, CeCe!

Absolutely stunning craftsmanship. I've seen cheap knockoffs in department stores, but this is the real deal. The mandala pattern is gorgeous and the natural straw smells earthy and authentic. I get compliments at the farmers market every weekend.

Diane Russo

I'm 62 and picky about my bags. This one is incredibly lightweight but surprisingly sturdy. The leather straps don't dig in, even when I have it loaded up with groceries. Knowing it's one of CeCe's last pieces makes it even more special.

Sandra Pope

Beautiful bag and very well made. The only reason for 4 stars is that it's a bit larger than I expected (it really is 17 inches wide!), but it's great for beach days. The weaving is flawless.
