Dug from the Ouachita Mountains near Mount Ida, Arkansas

Marlene Pruitt, 69, has dug her own quartz every Monday since 1984. Since 1996 she has carved a small fairy beside every crystal wing she found. A tremor in her hands ended the carving. These are her last 86.

“I don’t carve the wings. The wings grew in that mountain. I only find the girl that was sitting next to them. She belongs on a windowsill where a little girl can pick her up — not behind glass.”

What makes Marlene’s fairies special

🏔️The Grown Wing

The wing is not carved, cast or glued on. It is the real quartz cluster, just as it grew in the mountain. Every clear point is real crystal.

🔍The One-in-Thirty Selection

Only about one crystal cluster in thirty already has a wing in its shape. The rest never become fairies.

🪨The Mother-Rock Figure

The fairy is carved from the rock the crystal grew on. Fairy and wing are one single stone. Nothing is attached.

✨The Hair-Width Veining

The lines on the small lower wing are cut with a diamond bit just one millimeter wide — as fine as a hair.

☀️Made to Catch the Sun

Set her on a sunny windowsill. In the morning light, the clear wing sparkles and throws little spots of light.

🤲Fits in Your Palm

About 3 inches tall. Small enough for a windowsill, a nightstand or a little girl’s hand.

“Most crystal figures you see today are cast resin or glass with a few crystals glued on. What Marlene does is different: she leaves the natural cluster untouched and carves the figure from the host rock it grew on. That means the whole piece is one stone. You can only work like that if you dig the crystal yourself and wait for the right shape.”

Why Marlene’s fairies are different

  • Real crystal. Natural quartz from the mountains, not glass or resin.
  • One single stone. Fairy and wing grew together. Nothing glued on.
  • Dug by hand. Marlene pulled every crystal out of the clay herself.
  • Carved by hand. Every fairy was shaped at her bench in Arkansas.
  • One of a kind. No other fairy anywhere looks exactly like yours.
❤️ 30-day money-back guarantee

If she doesn’t find her place on your windowsill, one email to info@craft-folk.com is enough. Marlene would rather have her back than have her sit in a drawer.

Please note: Every fairy is a natural stone and one of a kind. The rock can be cream, honey, brown or slate grey, and the wing shape is different on every piece. The fairy you receive will look a little different from the photos. She is small — about 3 inches tall — and she is meant to be picked up and held to the light.

The Last Winter

A note from the shed:

Marlene Pruitt has dug her own quartz in the Ouachita Mountains outside Mount Ida, Arkansas, every Monday since 1984 — and since 1996 she has carved 1,214 fairies from clusters whose shape already held a wing, every one written down in a spiral notebook. In the spring of 2025 a tremor came into her hands. She can still dig, but she can no longer hold a one-millimeter diamond bit still against a crystal. The 86 fairies she finished last winter are the last there will ever be.

What people say about Marlenes crystal fairies

She sits on my kitchen window. On sunny mornings the crystal wing throws little rainbows across the sink. I did not expect that, and I look forward to it every day now.

Sabine H., Portland, OR

Smaller than I pictured, and that is exactly the charm. She fits right in my palm, and the crystal points on the wing are real and sharp.

Linda B., Chicago, IL

Gave her to my mom for her birthday with a card about Marlene. Mom read it twice and put the fairy on the windowsill before she even finished her cake.

Verified

Sarah P., Rochester, NY

I have collected crystals for twenty years. Fairy and wing are one single stone, you can see where the rock turns into crystal. Nothing on my shelf looks like her.

Verified

Renee M., Asheville, NC

My granddaughter holds her up to the window every time she visits so the sun comes through the wing. That is exactly what Marlene wanted, and it shows.

Verified

Marguerite L., Duluth, MN

She sits on my desk between the plants. Every video call somebody asks about her. Knowing a woman in Mount Ida dug the crystal herself makes her sit differently in the room.

Priya R., Nashua, NH

Arrived wrapped in a strip of newspaper, just like the story said. Not one crystal point chipped. I ordered a second one for my sister that same evening.

How is it made?

Marlene digs the quartz by hand in the Ouachita Mountains and keeps only the clusters whose shape already holds a wing — about one in thirty. She carves the small fairy from the rock the crystal grew on and leaves the crystal wing exactly as it grew. Fairy and wing are one single natural stone, nothing glued or attached. The fine lines on the lower wing are cut with a one-millimeter diamond bit. No two are identical.
