The Green Solar Pearl Dragon is a hand-formed metal garden statue, built one piece at a time by retired metalworker Eli Mercer in his tin-roofed workshop outside Millersburg, Pennsylvania. After nearly five decades shaping copper, tin, and garden metal by hand, Eli is closing his doors — but not before finishing one last run of his most requested piece.
What Makes It Different
Most garden statues sold today are hollow resin castings sprayed with a single coat of paint. They fade in one summer, crack in the first frost, and end up at the curb by spring. The Green Solar Pearl Dragon is built the way old-school Pennsylvania metalworkers used to build things: to outlast you.
Built the way it should be:
- Hand-formed metal body — every scale, claw, and wing shaped individually on Eli's workbench. No molds, no casting, no two dragons exactly alike.
- Multi-layered patina finish — green, blue, and purple tones applied by hand in multiple coats. The finish deepens and evolves naturally with weather and time, the way real patina should.
- Frosted glass solar orb — nestled in the dragon's front claws. Charges during the day, automatically lights up at dusk. Cycles through warm gold, blue, purple, and green hues throughout the night.

The Story Behind the Workshop
Eli Mercer spent nearly fifty years as a working metalsmith in central Pennsylvania — copper gutters, hand-formed weathervanes, custom garden pieces for local estates. After his pension, he poured himself into one project: a dragon statue that would hold a light in the garden after dark. Something that felt alive at dusk.
The Green Solar Pearl Dragon became his most requested piece. But Eli's workshop needs a new roof, new wiring, and repairs he can no longer justify. His granddaughter convinced him to sell the final inventory online before the building changes hands.
