Gloria's Six-Color Mushroom Fork House
Made in Pennsylvania’s mushroom country for 45 years
Gloria Ferraro, 72, has made her little mushroom fork houses in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, since 1979 — six forks, six colors, one for each child at her mother’s Sunday table. Arthritis in both thumbs has ended the work. These are her last 238.
“I don’t want them in a glass cabinet. I want them on a Sunday table, with little hands reaching for their color.”
Gloria Ferraro · Kennett Square, Pennsylvania
What comes in the box
Glazed ceramic, about 4 in tall
Stainless steel, about 4 in long
Black, white, pink, peach, yellow, red
Each fork wrapped, ready to give
What makes Gloria’s mushroom house different
Every fork has its own bead color. Tell your guests their color once, and nobody loses track of their fork again.
Six holes hold the forks upright. The tines stay inside the house, never on the table, and the set needs just 3½ inches of space.
Stainless steel with two sharp tines. Just right for a grape, a cube of melon, a piece of cheese or a bite of cake.
Glazed all over. Juice and frosting don’t soak in, and a little warm water makes it look new again.
A brown fairy-tale door on the ribbed stem. It’s the first thing children point at, and the reason grown-ups smile.
About the size of a coffee mug. It fits next to the fruit bowl, on a cheese board or on a crowded holiday buffet.
“Children eat what they can reach and what feels like their own. Bite-size fruit with a fork in their favorite color turns a snack into a little game, and the bowl empties faster. I also like that each person keeps one fork all evening — at a party, that means fewer hands in the same dish. It’s a small thing that makes sharing food easier and a lot more fun.”

Why Gloria’s mushroom house lasts
- Real ceramic. Glazed and fired, not plastic or resin.
- Stainless steel forks. They won’t rust or bend with everyday use.
- Colors that stay. The bead colors are glazed, not painted on, so they don’t wash off.
- Easy to clean. Smooth glaze inside and out.
- Made to be used. Her mother’s first mushroom house was on the table every Sunday for 30 years.
If it doesn’t earn its spot on your table, one email to info@craft-folk.com is enough. Gloria would rather have it back than see it sit in a cupboard.
Tip from Gloria: Give every guest a color when they arrive. At the end of the night, you’ll know exactly whose fork is still on the couch. Every house is finished by hand, so the white dots and the little door can differ slightly from piece to piece — no two are exactly alike.

A note from the studio:
Gloria Ferraro has made her little mushroom fork houses in her father’s old packing shed in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, since 1979 — about 2,600 of them. It started with her mother’s Sunday fruit plate: six children, six forks, one color each. Gloria made her mother a clay mushroom to hold them, and she has made them ever since for the town’s Mushroom Festival. Since 2025, arthritis in both thumbs no longer lets her roll the little bead handles round. 238 houses are left, all three colors together. When they are gone, there will be no more.

What people say about Gloria’s mushroom houses
My grandkids used to leave the fruit untouched. Now they fight over who gets to pull the first fork. A whole bowl of melon gone in ten minutes.

Diane M., Lancaster, PA
I used it at our Thanksgiving cheese table. Every guest got a color, and not one fork went missing all night. Everyone asked where I found it.

Susan W., Akron, OH
Bought the yellow one for my daughter’s new apartment. It came wrapped like a little treasure. The forks are real steel, not flimsy at all.
Verified
Karen T., Cherry Hill, NJ
Smaller than I pictured, which is perfect. It sits right next to the fruit bowl and takes no room at all. The little painted door makes me smile every morning.

Barbara L., Wilmington, DE
I ordered the red one and went back for the orange. One on the dessert table, one for the cheese. My husband says we have a mushroom farm now.

Nancy R., Reading, PA
Gave it to my mother, who is 86. She grew up with five brothers and said this would have saved her a lot of arguments. She laughed for a full minute.

Linda G., Towson, MD
We put it out for my grandson’s birthday picnic. Strawberries on little forks, every kid with their own color. Not one tear about whose fork was whose.

How is it made?
How is it made?
Gloria shapes each mushroom by hand and draws the fine lines into the stem with a wooden tool. She paints the little brown door and about thirty white dots on the cap, one by one, and fires it twice. The six bead handles are glazed in their own colors — black, white, pink, peach, yellow and red — so they never wash off, and they sit on stainless steel forks that stand upright in the cap. No two are exactly alike.
