Six Details Built Into the Terracotta, Not Sprayed on Later
Eleanor's Handcrafted Slug-Guard Garden Gnome Trio is not a plastic ornament with a scent added on top. The protection begins before the glaze firing, when the raw terracotta is deeply infused with Eleanor’s Barrier Blend and prepared to release scent slowly through the unglazed base.
The Barrier Blend
Eleanor mixes cedar, rosemary, and lavender essential oils into her proprietary garden-safe blend. Slugs and snails naturally avoid these strong herbal and woody scents, while gardeners still get a pleasant, old-world herb-garden aroma.
The Deep-Soak Method
The oil is absorbed into the raw terracotta before the glaze firing, rather than being sprayed across the finished surface. That means the scent lives inside the clay body and releases gradually from within.
The Unglazed Base
The decorative top and sides are glazed to protect Eleanor’s hand-painted finish, while the bottom remains unglazed. This porous base becomes the release zone that slowly emits scent into the surrounding soil.
The Terracotta Principle
Real kiln-fired terracotta is naturally porous. Eleanor uses that structure to hold the Barrier Blend deep in the clay, helping each gnome support a scent boundary around hostas, lettuce, flowers, herbs, and young garden starts.
The Refresh Drop
The included 30ml refill bottle lets you add a few drops of Barrier Blend to the unglazed base every 3–4 months. One bottle lasts approximately 6 months of seasonal refreshing.
